Bush OK'd Leaks? - Libby court papers: Cheney said Bush OK'd intelligence leak - Apr 6, 2006:
"WASHINGTON (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney's former top aide told prosecutors that his boss said President Bush authorized the leak of sensitive intelligence information about Iraq, according to court papers filed by prosecutors in the CIA leak case."

Looks like getting to the bottom of this traitorous schandal means getting to the top as well.

Keeping Score

Daily Kos: Republican Family Values?

And this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Repugs' brand of power politics. Remember this and what else happens come November!

Are Nuclear Plants Safe Enough?, Report: Since 9/11, 103 U.S. Nuclear Plants Are Only Slightly Safer - CBS News:
If the terror attacks of 9/11 taught one lesson, it was that America must make itself less vulnerable to attack by air — perhaps nowhere more urgently than at the nation's 103 nuclear power plants, given their potential for inflicting massive casualties and destruction if hit by a plane loaded with fuel.

Yet 4½ years later, those plants are little safer from air attack, say critics. And squabbling has set in over what the security standards should be.
Anyone who thinks this administration or congress cares the least about our safety needs to see a psychiatrist.

Soon To Be Without Delay

My Way News - DeLay Announces Resignation From House:
"'Tom Delay's announcement is just the beginning of the reckoning of the Republican culture of corruption that has gripped Washington for too long,' said Karen Finney, a spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee. 'From DeLay to Scooter Libby to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, to Duke Cunningham, to Bob Ney, to David Safavian, the list of goes on and on.'"

Someone I know said this would never happen. Bwahaha! As I mentioned before, that last aide pleading guilty to conspiracy put the heat setting over the top for Mr. Sunshine. I can't wait for the trial.

Think It Can't/Doesn't Happen Here?

9/11 Detainees in New Jersey Say They Were Abused With Dogs - New York Times:
Until now, lawsuits brought by former detainees against top American officials have focused attention on the maximum security unit of a federal detention center in Brooklyn where the Justice Department's inspector general found widespread abuse. But today in Toronto, as Mr. Sachdeva, a Canadian citizen born in India, gives his first deposition for the class-action lawsuit, the spotlight will shift to the New Jersey jail.

There, about 400 of the 762 mainly Muslim detainees rounded up in the United States after 9/11 were held. The lawsuit charges that the detainees' confinement was arbitrary, illegally based on their religion or national origin, and that guards routinely terrorized them with aggressive dogs.

In November 2004, federal officials who oversee the detention of immigrants facing deportation said they would no longer send detainees to jails that used dogs to patrol inside. That decision by the Department of Homeland Security came a day after National Public Radio broadcast an investigative report saying that the dogs had been used over a three-year period to intimidate, attack and, in at least two cases, bite immigrant detainees in the Passaic County Jail.

'To hear about the use of dogs in this way within the United States is truly shocking,' said Jonathan Turley, a professor of national security and constitutional law at George Washington University, who is not involved in the case. 'But Abu Ghraib didn't spring from the head of Zeus.'
Think again.

Figures they'd dance around this one. It's still inevitable, but they're hoping to get at least one more BushCo appointee on the court before that happens. Let's hope they don't.

Sectarian Strife Fuels Gun Sales in Baghdad - New York Times

Sectarian Strife Fuels Gun Sales in Baghdad - New York Times: Few killings have been investigated, eroding what little faith there was in law enforcement. The suspicion is growing that officers in the Shiite-controlled police forces are linked to the death squads.

'I don't believe anyone can protect me,' said Ms. Janabi, the new Glock owner. 'Not the Americans, not my government.'So this is Bush's plan for Iraq; to turn it into Texas? In the 1800's?

Republicans Increasingly Critical of Bush

My Way News - Republicans Increasingly Critical of Bush:
The rising GOP angst stems from Bush's deep slump in the polls and the growing unpopularity of the Iraq war.

But it also reflects a political reawakening as Republicans follow their own political interests in this midterm election year and as would-be 2008 presidential contenders seek ways to set themselves apart - from each other and from Bush.

'It's open season on him. George Bush has lost trust on too many issues,' said presidential historian Thomas E. Cronin of Colorado College. 'We saw it happen with Johnson, we saw it with Nixon. And now, sadly, we're seeing it with Bush.'
What's that line about rats leaving a sinking ship? Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folks. Let's hope the strategy doesn't work for them, and people remember what they did over the last five years.
